The Meadow - The Environment
The environment at The Meadow has been carefully designed for our youngest learners. We believe that the spaces children learn in shape how they feel, how they explore and how confident they become as learners.
Our provision is calm, welcoming and intentionally organised so that children can play, explore and communicate without feeling overwhelmed. The Meadow is designed to enable children to feel empowered to take risks and make choices about their environment.
Language sits at the heart of everything we do. Every area of provision invites conversation, shared attention and storytelling. Staff spend time alongside children, modelling language, responding to their ideas and supporting the development of early communication through warm and meaningful interaction.
Across The Meadow you will see open ended resources that encourage children to explore, investigate and experiment. Many of these experiences support early schemas such as filling, emptying, transporting and building. These repeated experiences are an important part of early development, helping children to make sense of the world around them while developing physical control, curiosity and confidence.
Our environment includes spaces for:
imaginative role play
construction and small world play
creative exploration
mark making and early writing
sensory and malleable play
cosy reading and storytelling
The outdoor space is just as important as the classroom. Children have daily access to outdoor learning where they can climb, run, transport materials and explore the natural world. These experiences build strength, coordination and resilience while supporting communication and imaginative play.
Above all, we want The Meadow to feel like a home from home. A place where children feel safe, valued and excited to explore. When children feel secure in their environment, they are far more willing to take risks, try new things and develop the confidence that will support them throughout their time in school.
